In a modern world, the breast reduction operation is one of the common methods used by today’s women in enhancing their personality.

Older generation

Think of the older generation who did not even aware of these therapy and use to carry the problems along with them.

Problems faced by the older generation

Probably they were prone to
Neck pain,
Shoulder pain,
Back pain.

And the second major they face problem in it is their
Tops,
Suits and
Sarees.

They were unable to find a decent top which can make a person look good.
And the taunts which were passed by the men who use to work on the same path with the lady passing on the comments to her.

Modern generation

Modern generation is becoming very advanced so as people. The new technologies have made people so advanced that they use the machines and other equipments not only in their office work but also in enhancing their personality. People get their laser treatment done for their face as well as the body so that their body becomes hair proof. Some people go for rebonding for their hairs removing the natural beauty of the hairs. Earlier people use to walk miles and miles to get rid of the bulky fat stored in their body but in this modern generation people join gyms, spas, aerobics, slimming centers to get rid of the bulky fat stored in their body. The other new technology launched was breast reduction and this treatment or surgery is also getting popular through out the world. More and more women prefer going through this surgery and getting out the fruitful results through it.

About the breast reduction surgery

Breast reduction surgery is also known as mammoplasty reduction. This surgery is basically done by the plastic surgery doctors. This is basically done to reduce the size of the breast. This is done by removing the excessive fats, skin and glandular tissue. This surgery is performed through anesthesia. The surgery probably takes four to five hours and then you are done with it. Breast reduction is also performed when both the breasts are not of the same size, in other terms the sizes of the breast differ in comparison to the other one.

So one should always have an appropriate knowledge about the treatment before she undergoes through this treatment.

Now days, breast reduction appears to be a very common method among the women. Having a huge breast causes different problems to the women which are faced by the women at a later stage.

Huge breast can cause:

Neck pain
Shoulder pain
Back pain
Blood circulation problem
Breathing problems

Some facts about breast reduction:

It is a costly surgery and every one can not afford it but it is less cheaper than breast augmentation.
Insurance coverage is available for breast reduction surgery.
Breast reduction surgery leaves permanent scars.
It is generally performed by plastic surgery doctors.

The surgery takes maximum of two to three hours but a hospital stay is probably two to three days.
One must always consult a doctor regarding the breast reduction treatment. She should always take an opinion that whether the surgery should be performed or not?

The past health information should also be provided to the surgeon so that she can analyze the best treatment can be done in which way, which may not harm a person’s skin.
The treatment costs up to $10,000 ranging from $5000 to $10, 000.

Reason behind people decide breast reduction:

Age deformation
Dis figurement
Accidents
diseases

Women’s breast size varies with:

age
height
frame

Procedure Of breast Reduction

Generally what happens is that the skin of the breast is removed where the excessive fat is deposited. The fat is then removed after the removal of the skin. And then the size of the breast becomes small and firmer. These are lucky ones who get them treated for their breast reduction. Not everyone gets a chance to have a surgical treatment by a good doctor.

After the surgery

This surgery is not much of painful. But there are some precautions that have to be taken after the surgery. There are surgical bras available in the hospital which will be provided to you, these bras should be worn by a lady for at least a month. Six months rest should be taken to full and finally recover them. And one should always keep her weight stable so as to manage accordingly and cause no further problems at a later stage.

If these things are always kept in mind your treatment will ultimately give you a very fruitful result.

There are lots of reasons why women want to undergo this particular surgery. The long list of reasons may include but not limited to painful bra grooves resulting from the over sized breast, back pain and spinal disorders could be a potential reason too because a heavy and over sized breast may cause bad posture.

Sometimes after significant weight loss, women find out that they had lost weight from all over their bodies but not from their breasts so; they tend to reduce its size to match their new body size. In some other cases there is an asymmetry in the breast size that needs a surgical interference to rectify the situation. In some cases, changing the appearance of the person is the only reason to undergo that surgical operation.

No matter what the reason is, the only thing that you need to make sure of is that you are doing this for your own self not for someone else. Some women undergo this operation just to satisfy their spouse or boyfriend, this is not the right reason to take this critical decision.

You must know that any surgical operation has its own risks and complications so; you need to make sure that it is your own decision because it is only you who will bear the consequences.

While you are taking the decision, you need to gather as much information as you can about the operation. Take a look at before and after photos from different surgeons just to find out the best option for you. Also you may need to find out a forum or a website where other women had taken the same decision before. Ask them about their experience and what they have done after the operation, also you may ask them about the complications they had faced. All of this will help you take a well educated decision.

When you are fully convinced that breast reduction surgery is your chosen option then you need to find a certified surgeon near you and book an appointment to discuss everything in person with him. This session is very important because it will let you know what to expect practically. Tell your surgeon about any previous medical history to take the needed precautions before proceeding with the operation. Breast reduction surgery is an irreversible decision so make sure that you really want it before you go for it.

There is a big debate about whether the breast reduction surgical procedures are considered a plastic surgery or re- constructive surgery. Most people are not interested in this debate, all what they want is the result. They need to decrease the size of their breasts whether it is considered a plastic or reconstructive surgery. But, this debate has a huge impact on you too because it affect your financing for the operation.

If you need this operation for a medical indication, as sometimes the large size breast may cause lot of pain and may interfere with your daily life, then your insurance policy will cover a large portion of your operation expenses according to the insurance policy you have. Below we will show you how much your insurance company will cover.

If the operation is done on your choice, as you want to enjoy a better shape for your breasts or so then most insurance companies will not cover such procedure. To avoid any misunderstands, check with your surgeon about the fees and expenses and hand him your insurance number so he can make sure that you are covered. After that, double check with your insurance account agent about your policy.

Some insurance policies apply deductibles. This means that you have to pay an amount of money and the company pays a percent of the remaining money. For example if you have deductibles of $100 and your breast reduction operation costs $1000 so, the remaining portion will be $900. Some insurance policies will pay anywhere from 60 to 90 percent of the amount. Add the remaining to the deductible amount and this will be your share.

In some cases the patient condition may need one or two days in the hospital after the operation, the hospitalization cost is not included in your insurance and you have to pay it yourself.

Some medical insurance premiums have different method in covering medical services like paying a fixed amount or a fixed percentage regardless of the cost. The client is responsible for the rest of the cost and should pay for it herself.

Every case has its own condition according to the insurance policy so; make sure to discuss it with your account manager or insurance agent before you go for your breast reduction operation.

As any other type of surgery, anesthesia can cause allergy to the patient, allergic reactions from anesthesia is a common and known complication of any type of surgery. Apart from the usual complications that may occur with any type of surgery, breast reduction has a list of complications on its own. The first complication on the list is the numbness and loss of sensation; this is a common complication that takes place after the operation.

Normally, the numbness lasts for a month or little bit more because the nerve endings are severely hurt but it may take a longer time to regain sensation in this area so, be patient. As for the areola area, the numbness may last forever.

The second complication is the scars. Obviously, wherever there is an incision there is a scar and it takes some time before it fades away. The only problem occurs when the scar develop into a hypertrophy or keloid. In this case, the scar may be permanent. Use the scar gels after removing the stitches to reduce the probability of scar formation.
In some other cases during breast reduction, the wound may re-open again and this needs an immediate action so, if you find your wound open again, then you need to call your surgeon immediately. In this case you may need a revision surgery to re- stitch the wound again.
Away from the scars, sometimes the two breasts are not fully symmetrical.

A slight asymmetry may pass unnoticed but if it is severe then it would be noticed with naked eye easily. Be sure to check as much as you can from your surgeon’s before and after portfolio before you decide to use his services.

While it is rare but sometimes it occurs, tissue necrosis is a rare complication of the breast reduction surgery but you may want to take your precautions. A necrotic tissue occurs when the fat tissue remains without proper blood supply. A necrotic tissue may spread infection and cause gangrene so, if you noticed any change in the color of your breast then you may want to call your surgeon directly to take the necessary treatment.

Breast reduction surgery is a must in some cases so, if you decided to undergo such operation then you need to be fully aware of the complication in order to take extreme care and get the best results from your surgery.

Breast reduction is growing now more popular because people now are aware that their breast size problem could be solved through different techniques but, most of them do not know how to approach this operation and what to do first.

The first thing you need to do is to choose your surgeon because the surgeon is one of the most important factors contributing in the success of your operation. Find a Board certified surgeon near you and book an appointment for your first visit.

After talking to your surgeon you will know the cost for your operation so, your next step is to know how to finance your operation. Some insurance premiums do not cover plastic surgery because they consider it elective and not mandatory for the patient so, if you are undergoing breast reduction for a medical purpose then inform your insurance company and make sure that they will cover your operation.

Surgeon will send a pre – authorization letter to your insurance company to know if they will cover the operation fees or that you are going to cover it yourself.
After that, your surgeon will set an appointment for preliminary examination. The surgeon will examine your breast and ask you how you want your breast to look like. The next step is to find out how your breast will really look like after surgery. The surgeon will suggest different surgical approaches and tell you about the best one suitable for your particular case.
The doctor will also tell you more about the complications that may appear after the surgical operation. During that session, you should ask your surgeon about any concerns in your mind about the operation or the preparations before the operation or even the results that you are expecting from the operation. If you feel that there is anything unclear then you should ask for clarification because the results are irreversible.

Generally, this type of operation is carried out under general anesthesia so, your surgeon will ask you about a full medical history and some lab tests to determine whether you are fit for the operation or not.

The pre – operative steps are very important, they are the base that will leave a direct impact on your operation so, take care of these steps and carry them out carefully because they will guarantee perfect results for your breast reduction surgical operation.

Before you put yourself under the surgeon’s scalpel you need to know more about the possible techniques for this particular process. Of course determining the proper technique for the breast reduction surgery is not your ultimate call but knowing the different techniques will give you an idea about what the surgeon is going to do and will help you ask the proper questions to your surgeon.

The first standard technique is the anchor technique; in this one the surgeon will cut the skin in three different directions horizontally along the breast crease, vertically from the breast crease to the lower end of the areola and finally a circular incision around the areola itself. The diagram resembles an anchor and it is used in different degrees of breast reduction.

The second technique is the standard keyhole technique; this is the basic technique that is used by several surgeons because it can be used with any needed degree of reduction from mild to severe. The process starts by incising a keyhole incision around the areola, remove the skin and the underlying tissue till the desired size then re – stitch the skin back together with lifting the areola to fit in the circular part of the keyhole diagram.

The previous two techniques leave long scars behind but they are the only ways to deal with severe cases but if the case is mild to moderate then there are other choices with fewer scars that you can choose from.

The third technique is called the periareolar technique but it is commonly known as the doughnut technique. The name comes from the shape of the incision in this technique, the surgeon will use the areola as the center of the doughnut then he will cut a circular strip of skin around it. Then he will remove the desired amount of fat and mammary glands manually and at the end the surgeon will stretch the skin to reach the areola and stitch. In this case stitching is mandatory as we cannot use glue or strips to close such wound. This technique will only leave a scar that is disguised at the rim of the dark areola.

The last technique is the simplest one and it is the only one that leaves minimal scars. In this technique the surgeon will perform a liposuction more than breast reduction. Small incisions will be made at the crease, the arm pit and the areola to enter thin liposuction catheter and remove the excess fat from the designated area before sealing these incisions back.

Choosing the best surgeon for your surgical operation is a very crucial step; it boosts the results of your operation immensely and improves your safety as well. Choosing a surgeon should not be a big trouble but with the increase in the number of surgeons and the presence of the internet, people are now keen to find their best option when it comes down to choosing a surgeon.

The breast reduction operation stands on the line between the reconstruction and plastic surgery. It could be considered as either of them according to the amount of removed tissue and the goal of the operation. This also affect the financing of the operation as most medical insurance policies do not cover plastic surgery operations but most of them do for the reconstruction operations.

This should not be a factor for choosing the suitable surgeon for your operation because sacrificing the quality for the price is a wrong move so, if you cannot afford paying for the proper surgeon then you may want to contact your bank for a loan or wait for a period of time till you can afford it.

The criteria for choosing the best surgeon should include some qualification like whether he is Board certified or not because this means that the doctor has at least 6 years of experience and fully trained to carry out such operations.
You should also see the doctor’s portfolio for previous operations carried out by him or her. Even if you are not an expert but the picture worth thousand words, you will be able to judge the result yourself.

In breast reduction operations, surgeons should first examine the client well and explain the possible results and complication that may associate the operation. If your doctor did not do this then you may want to reconsider searching for another one.

Some doctors, even though they are experts, do not explain the operation fully to their patients and this may result in some misunderstanding.
You also need to know where the doctor carry out the operations, is it a clinic or a hospital? If it is a hospital then you can make sure that you will receive the required attention pre and post your operation. If the doctor carries out the operations in a clinic then you need to make sure that the facility is certified to host surgical operations but, if the clinic is well equipped then you can make sure that you will have the best quality breast reduction operation.

It may be a little bit weird but it is real, a large percentage of males suffer from breast enlargement or gynecomastia. The enlargement of the breast in males causes a lot of embarrassment between men and causes them to isolate from their societies especially in teenage cases. Boys tend to tease each other regarding their breast size and many teenagers who suffer from this syndrome do not want to participate in sports or activities.

The known causes for this case are not very well defined but it include hormonal disturbance of estrogen and testosterone, excess fat storage in this particular area and hereditary factors. If the breast enlargement is due to hormonal disturbance, it is self cured when the case is over 18 years because the hormones tend to balance after this period causing the breast to regain its normal size. Cases induced by hereditary factors or due to fat storage may need surgical interference to remove the stored fat.
